When we filmed this, Bhopal was about to get a landmark: Habibganj Railway Station was being reborn as Rani Kamlapati Railway Station — India’s first world-class, airport-style station redeveloped on a public-private model. It was inaugurated in November 2021.
The story behind the name
The station is named after Rani Kamlapati, the 18th-century Gond queen woven into Bhopal’s own origin story. In the video we walk through both the history and the brand-new station — the modern concourse, the escalators and lifts, the shops and the airport-like waiting areas.
Why it matters for travellers
If you’re planning how to reach Bhopal by train, this is one of the city’s two main railheads (alongside Bhopal Junction), and several premium trains — including the Vande Bharat — call here. It’s worth knowing which station your train uses before you book.
